Virtual Monday - A Normal Day In My Life

Business Context:

I am working as a Chairman of the Winnovation Network (WN). My chairman role includes business planning and coaching of the CEO:s of the WN companies (Zipipop, Fifth Element, Growth Lab Consulting and Ethos Technologies).

I live currently in three places: Marbella/Spain, Phuket/Thailand and Espoo/Finland.

Here is my typical Monday virtual workday experience in Spain this year,2009 on October:

7.30 Wake-up call. Went jogging on the beach of Puerto Banus for one hour. Sun was also waking up at that time and temperature was around +20 degrees. My Suunto wrist-computer giving heart beat between 140-160 bpm. 600 kcal:s spent.

9.00 After shower and breakfast I started my working day. We have a penthouse where the upper floor and terrace is dedicated for my office space during the day. I opened my e-mail and read the messages sent during the night. Few e-mails from investment bankers. Nothing to consider.

9.30 We had our Winnovation Network weekly Skype conference call. Seven people attended. The CEO:s and sales people from the WN companies. We reviewed the status of our joint sales pipeline (which is in GoogleSites as a spreadsheet document, that all relevant people can see and update in real-time). We agreed on actions and documented those as we spoke.

10.30 Created an agenda proposal and marketing message for our December Social Media Seminar for business executives. I updated that in GoogleSites and asked relevant people to review and improve the text in GoogleSites.

11.15 Created a new discussion group in LinkedIn to create virtual discussion forum for clients on topic "Social Media in Business - Next Revolution? I invited WN network companies first to populate the forum with some questions, thoughts, news and also asked them to prepare their own lists of potential client members for the forum.

11.45 Checked company level Yammer discussion tweets to see what's hot at Fifth Element. Great new customer project wins. I gongratulated the teams. Interesting articles which some people have found on mobility trends and business benefits. I left a question if anybody could help in making a presentation for the client meeting on the topic related to Mobility in Social Media.

12.00 Checked a dedicated Yammer group of WN executive team. Jukka (CEO of Fifth Element) had asked when and how he should invite executives to the LinkedIn group. I updated the LinkediN settings to give "manager rights" for the CEO:s and adviced on timing. I also emphasized the need for the executives to participate in LinkedIn discussions to create a great pull for our group discussion.

12.15 Time for lunch and siesta. I walked to the Plaza Beach restaurant. They have great salads and are located just by the sea. Not so many tourists here anymore. Temperature +24. No wind. Sea breeze. Pretty nice...

13.30 Came back to my office. Checked my emails. Nothing special there. Joined company discussion forums on Ethos Confluence. They are preparing a leadership program. I commented some of the ideas and offered my help as needed.

14.00 Skype conference call with a client. Helene, CEO of Zipipop was meeting with a client sales director in Helsinki. I joined by Skype. We were innovating for opportunities for sales and marketing by using social media. We used Skype "share feature" to share presentations as we spoke. We updated some of the documents simultaneously on-line to catch our ideas and to create a summary from the meeting. One hour effective multimedia innovation session with no telecommunication costs :)

15.00 I checked my recent blog in Sometu-site (Social media in learning). I had got more than 10 responses for my text. And some of those from potential clients. Great. I answered the questions and made more comments. Sent an email to one of the clients and proposed for a meeting.

15.30 I updated our Go-To-Market-Plan documents in GoogleDocs. I reviewed the Value Offering presentations and made my our additions. I opened a new discussion on WN sales incentive schemes and asked CEO:s to contribute to the shared document.

16.00 I checked Costariders website (my Harley-Davidson team in Spain) to see the videos from the weekend ride in the mountains of Nueva Andalucia. Great pictures and videos. Looking forward to the next weekend.

16.30 I went to the pool. It was time for some sunshine, swimming and play.

18.00 Preparing for dinner. I checked my Facebook and Twitter. Nice pictures from ex-colleague Ilkka and his boat. Good links to some social media surveys and presentations in Twitter. Bookmarked and tagged those.

18.45 Having dinner at the Puerto Banus marina in our favorite Italian outdoors restaurant. Fun to see all those Ferraris, Bentleys and other great cars to drive by. The most magnificent boats made also a great impression. You seldom see so many over 100ft luxury boats in a same place.

20.30 Back to our penthouse. Nice time. Sitting at terrace. Watching last gloom of the sun. Sipping red-wine. Last check of emails and tomorrow's weather. Same as always. +25 and no clouds. Looking forward to tomorrow. Morning gym and a next virtual day.

23.00 Sleep-time
